WPFL Explodes Across the US in 2005

Hurst, TX – As one of America’s longest operating women’s professional sports league prepares to launch its 2005 schedule in just three weeks, the league decides to goes public early with their recent expansion accomplishments.

At the Women’s Professional Football League’s semi annual league meeting in March, five teams were given Expansion licenses for 2005 and three teams were given Intent licenses for 2006.

The Cape Fear Thunder from Fayetteville North Carolina, Georgia Gladiators from Hiram, Georgia, Carolina Queens from North Carolina, New Mexico Burn from Albuquerque New Mexico, and the Empire Roar out of Rochester New York were all given Expansion licenses for 2005.

The Westchester Wizards, Connecticut Cyclones, and San Antonio Sidewinders were all given Intent‘s for 2006.

“All of these teams are solid additions for the WPFL”. Stated Director of Expansion, Ann Bagala.

“As a professional sports league, we are very pleased with our success thus far” Stated the league’s Executive Director, Dawn Berndt. “It makes us very proud to continue to expand the opportunities to women to play professional football” Added Berndt.

This will be the seventh season for the Women’s Professional Football League with 19 teams in 12 states across the nation. The NFL had 10 teams nation wide in their eighth year of existence.
