Cape Fear Thunder Accepted Into the WPFL

Fayetteville, N.C. – They have provided the dream of women playing full contact football in North Carolina for the past two years in a now extinct league, and now the owners of the Cape Fear Thunder are expanding that dream.

Last week, the North Carolina team was given an exhibition license by the Women’s Professional Football League for the upcoming 2005 season.

The Thunder was presented by Jodi Kershanick and Co-Owner, Jamaine Conely to the WPFL Board of Directors at the league’s semi-annual league meeting held in Indianapolis this year.

"It was an honor to present our team to the WPFL, all the hard work has really paid off” Stated Kershanick

After months of working with the WPFL’s Director of Team Expansion, Ann Bagala, the team was accepted by a unanimous vote.

“This team has a tremendous amount of heart and passion for women’s football” Stated Director of Team Expansion, Ann Bagala. “We are certain they are a solid asset for the league” added Bagala

The Cape Fear Thunder will play a 4-6 game exhibition season for 2005 in the American Conference.

"We greatly appreciate the opportunity to join a league with such professionalism, and look forward to a great season and many more to come." Stated Co-Owner Jamaine Conley

The Thunder will be hosting two more tryouts for the 2005 roster on March 19, and 26th.
