The Delaware Griffins, Women’s
Professional Football Bear, Delaware - They entered their inaugural season in 2004, making them the first women’s professional football team in the state of Delaware. If that wasn’t enough they won their division, won their first round of Playoffs, and then were one field goal shy of overcoming the defending champion Northern Ice to advance to the 2004 Women’s Professional Football League Championship. All in their first season of existence. Now the Delaware Griffins gear up for season two in the WPFL, and will hold their first round of open tryouts this coming Sunday, January 30th, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware. “We were extremely pleased with our first season. We have a great organization, and look forward to adding some new rookies” Stated team owner and CEO, Alena Malatesta. “I think we proved that an expansion team can come in shake things up their first year.” added Malatesta. The Griffins will host two additional tryouts on February 20th, and March 12th. All tryouts are open to women at least 18 years old.
