Scorpions Take Down Houston to Remain Undefeated San Diego, CA – Saturday night San Diego became the city with an undefeated professional football team once again, only this time the team is made up of all women. The So Cal Scorpions, San Diego’s entry in the nation wide Women’s Professional Football League, faced the three time champion Houston Energy and came out on top 28-13. With San Diego mayoral candidate, Donna Frye on hand to do the nights coin toss the Scorpions showed the crowd at Edward’s Stadium in La Jolla why they may be the come back team of the year. The Scorpions started the game with a rushing touchdown from #2 Desiree Barry, then complimented the score with an 11 yard pass to #3 Melissa Gallegos. Kicker #15 Heather Winter was good on both PAT’s. The Energy answered with a 67 yard punt return for a touchdown by #83 Karen Mones, and an 85 yard interception touchdown, however failed on one PAT, keeping the Scorpions up by one at the half. In the second half the Scorpions came out swinging, and scored again with a second rushing touchdown by Barry, and a pass to #22 Athena Reyes. The Scorpions defense only allowed 2 first downs the whole game. “We ended last season 1-9, and we know we are now wearing the target” Stated Scorpions Head Coach Mike Suggett.
