| The Howington
Award is awarded to the MVP in the league at the championship
game. This is named after one of the organizers of the WPFL and
owner/player of the three time championship Houston Energy, Robin
Howington.
Howington, after being instrumental in writing policy
and the business structure for the WPFL, sold her team at the begining
of 2004. Staying on as a manger for the team, she’s kept her
hand in the women’s football business. Having been in women’s
football for many years, Howington has been a leader and the example
to live up to. Under her leadership, both administrative and on
the field, the Houston Energy became the yard stick for all other
teams in the WPFL.
On the league level, Howington used her professional
appeal holding a number of positions such as Executive Director,
Director of Team expansion and Treasurer. Howington was instrumental
in driving the WPFL into the prominent national spotlight that all
other leagues strive to achieve.
To honor her position as founder and constant inspiration
to teams in the WPFL and to women all over the nation that aspire
for the championship ring, The WPFL is proud to announce that 2004
was the first year of the “Howington Award”.
